The copycat mistake: discovered check on the e-file

In the Petrov, copying White with an immediate ...Nxe4 is a classic error. The e-file opens and the black king is still on e8. Qe2 attacks the knight and lines the queen up with the king. The knight on e5 is now a loaded gun. If Black retreats the knight, any knight move from e5 gives a discovered check, and Nc6+ also hits the queen on d8. The safe defence is ...Qe7, accepting a slightly worse queen trade. Knowing that the trap exists is what keeps you from walking into it.

A chess trainer that remembers what you missed

Most games between club players are decided by a short tactic — a fork you didn't see, a pin you walked into, a back rank you forgot to air out. Endgame closes the loop: learn the pattern on the Path, use it against a bot, get graded, and drill the miss until it sticks.
